Hola Carla;
It is common to find more than one route on the Camino. Yes, they are well
marked. From La Virgen Del Camino one can follow the yellow arrows to
Mazarife or stay next to the road and go to Villadangos Del Paramo. It
would be wise to research the various "alternative" routes before
undertaking the Camino. For example, departing Villafranca del Bierzo,
there are two routes and another minor alternative route. One route follows
the road and is deemed very dangerous from traffic as reported from Pilgrims
who have taken it. The other route quickly goes to the right out of
Villafranca and climbs very, very steeply up through the woods. Both routes
rejoin at Trabadelo. Of course getting down to Trabadelo is also very
steep. Departing Saint Jean Pied de Port requires a major decision as to
which route to take, the lower valley route or up and over the Pyrennes,
much steeper but with a spectacular view.
Buen camino!
