2004 pilgrim numbers

We walked this year in September, and the crowd was just right; plenty of
friends but not too many!! The refuges in Galacia were the only ones that
were too crowded, but we understand that the "official" refugios there are
loose about who can stay there, and we tended to have bad experiences in
them when we did-so we went to other refuges. However, as you know for this
year all bets are off!!<<<<Estelle

Why would September be any more crowded than July and August.  I would have
thought July would be the  most crowded given that July 25 is the Holy Day.
I do not especially like crowds, but had planned on walking the Camino
Frances this year.  What month (from May through September) do you think
would be the least crowded.  Thank you for any information you may offer!

  As 2004 IS a holy year the number of pilgrims on the Camino Frances will
exceed the annual grow ()
The archdiocese of Santiago and the Xunta of Gallicia expect a mere 3
million pilgrims.

Be assured that number counts for all "visitors" to Santiago in 2004.
The route from le Puy ( GR 65) will be busy, but not experiencing problems I
think
 From St Jean on and especially from Sarria and in the month of September it
will be rather unwise to travel there unless you like a lot of people a lot
and at the same time

If you see the statistics you might see how dramatically the increase is in
a holy year!

However if you think you like to do it: just do it!
