Bars

I have seen many references to "bars" along the Camino.  I grew up in an ethnic neighborhood in Chicago, and spent many childhood hours in taverns...these were respectable family places where people drank but where also social gathering places (even live music on weekends).  Now I'm in Kentucky where "bars" are generally NOT family places, and people just go there primarily to drink.

So when you say "bars" on the Camino, do you mean pub type facilities?  Are they restaurants that sell alcohol or are they primarily drinking establishments that sell some food on the side?
