I would take very little, in fact next to nothing, because should you need anything - you can always buy it on-route! Take clothes that are ready for the recycling. You may think that this advice sounds crazy, but wait until you see those beautiful Spanish goodies! I bought new socks and running shoes from a very good sports shop in Los Arcos. Some great underwear in Logrono. Two beautiful T-Shirts in Santa Domingo, and an attractive cotton neck scarf in Burgos. Had I had more room in my pack I would have bought more, which leads me on to the next thing, "Backpacks!"

Next time I set off for the Camino it will be with a Golite Breeze on my back, half empty! The contents:

Snugpak Softy 3 and silk liner
Ultralight sports sandals
Washing kit
Penknife
Camera
Ultralight wet weather gear that packs down to nothing.
Mini notebook and pencil
A few items of extra clothing, fleece, etc.

Don't worry about a water canteen. Buy a bottle of water, and store it in a side pocket. Fountains galore on-route!

Same goes for blister kit! You can pick up first aid in almost every town and village you pass through. Take you first aid pouch next to empty. There's a comprehensive list of first aid and it's Spanish equivalent in the files of the Ultreya group.

Finally, for the ladies, I would seriously consider buying a sarong! I would have wore one myself if I thought I could get away with it. 8-)

Remember: If you leave an item at home you reduce its weight by 100%.

I hope this helps?

Thanks, Jason--I'm leaving this coming Sunday. So, am counting on the running
shoes being the right solution. Did you bring two pair? Mary
