Hello you all,
The silver cape that covers the shoulders of the Apostle since 1704 will be
removed today and placed for exhibition in the Cathedral's Museum. The cape
has withstood not only the hugs of millions and millions of pilgrims and
tourists, but, reportedly, also the vandalism of some hooligans who have used pen
knives and other blades to remove some of its encrusted stones.
The original cape will be replaced with a replica until such a time when a
way may be found to protect it from vandals and other malfeasants.
Fernando Mayer, professor of silver sculpting at Santiago's school of
Compostelan arts and crafts will oversee the removal of the original cape and its
replacement.
Warm regards,
Rosina
