Xacobeo and Football

Some of the icons of international football, such as Spain's Raul, Portugal's
Figo and Brasil's Roberto Carlos have made the pilgrimage to Santiago; the
greatest football player of the last several years, Brasil's Ronaldo, has gone
to Santiago more than once.  Coaches of Spanish football teams often make the
pilgrimage as thanks for having won or in the hope of winning.
"La Voz de Galicia", one of the region's principal daily newspapers,
reported that Spain's Education and Culture minister,  Pilar del Castillo,
accompanied by some University presidents and teachers and many students,  commenced the
walk to Santiago at Roncesvalles last Wednesday.  Apparently she, and the
others, will walk to Santiago in stages of a few days at a time meant for arrival
in Santiago next year for the
Xacobean holy year observances.
