Foncebadon -- and where help is needed

Actually, the Taverna de Gaia (yes, the weird place) is not what "the Germans" are working on in Foncebadon. The Germans have been building a refuge, whose opening is apparently being blocked by a local politician with ties to the Taverna people. "The French" apparently also have their eye on Foncebadon as the potential site for some sort of study centre. And somebody or other has been fixing up the local church as well.
If you want to help out, I'd say forget about Foncebadon and think about setting up shop in one of those beautiful Basque villages on the way down from Roncesvalles. It's an awfully long way down from there to Larrasoana (or even Zubiri), especially for anyone who is just starting on the Camino, and it's a shame to leave the Pyrenees behind so quickly.
