Goethe-award for Dutch Writer Cees Nooteboom

Dear all,
In the town hall of Hamburg (Germany) the Dutch writer and novelist Cees
Nooteboom ( the Roads to Santiago) has been awarded the “Hansischer
Goethe-Award” of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation on March 27th .
Since 1950 this award with a donation of 25.000 Euros,Europeans are honoured
who have inspired to a better understanding between the nations in the
legacy of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

In her notes the jury finds that the work of Cees Nooteboom reflects: “a
very impressive quantity of philosophical, literately, historical and
art-related knowledge that goes hand in hand with a poetical lightness of
visual discoveries and observations.

Other laureates were: Marin Buber, T.S. Eliot, Walter Gropius, Theodor
Heuss, Benjamin Britten, Manes Sperber, Carl Friedrich von Weizsacker,
Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Harald Weinrich, Ryszard Kapuscinky en Pina Bausch

Cees Nooteboom said in his words of thanks: He that reads Goethe nowadays is
still in the fore field!
