Camino names?

Hi Estelle,
It has been written that in ancient times the first pilgrim in a group that
arrived at Mount Joy, (Monte del Gozo), from which the Cathedral's towers
could be first seen, earned the right to be declared the "king" of the group. It
is believed that many of those first to arrive held on to the honorific,
whence first and last names in modern times, such as Leroy or King in English
derive. The same origin is attributed to names in other languages such as Roy,
Rey, del Rey, Reyes and so on.
