St Catherine's is indeed a wonderful sight but one that needs to be
experienced by staying close by overnight. If one takes a taxi from the
coast during the day the crowds in the middle of the day are terrible as
are the queues. Apart from the church what I found most interesting was
the modernity of the very early icons. I saw some cyclist from where I do
not know cycling there across the desert - 'true pilgrims'. Did you walk up
the mountain when you were there and what was it like? Next time I will try
and do so.
