Maura--the most important thing to bring is you and
the most worthless thing to bring is worry. More
concretely, having a sarong saved the day for me many
times--it is multipurpose and light weight! I didn't
bring anything that was worthless and I carried no
more that 15 pounds. Everything I carried was
scrutinized and seemed priceless in that I carried the
bare minimum and my back thanked me for that time and
again.
Footgear, I think, as well as layers of clothes for
warmth, cold and sun portection were the essentials.
There were times I wished I had sneakers to wear
instead of boots, but my boots were essential for me.
I carried teva's (sandals) for alternate footwear at
night--but they were not the best to walk in.
