Digital or Film

I plan to take Kodak disposable cameras because of their light weight. As I finish each I'll mail it home to myself to lighten the load. You have reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask, though: are AA and AAA batteries universal, or American? I'm taking a few spares for a maglight and they are not lightweight. If they are easily available in Spain I'll be able to shave off that much more weight.

I don't know much about digital camaras as I have never had one of my own. What I do know is that you will want to have a camara that takes good pictures because you are going to encounter some of the most beautiful scenery and beautiful people on the Camino.

One thing to consider is that from my understanding (again, I don't really have any personal knowledge about digital camaras), digital camaras use a lot of batteries that need to be recharged rather frequently. This may be a bit of a hassle because you would need a converter and a charger in addition to the camara. Is there anyone on the list who can confirm or deny this?

Whichever method you choose, just remember to take in the beauty of what is around you and don't spend your entire time viewing it through the lens of a camara. You may also want to take a sketchbook/journal because it never hurts to pause for a few moments and truly contemplate what you see (and try to capture it the old fashioned way), rather than just getting a snapshot and continuing on.
