El Corte Ingles

I love El Cortes Ingles. We lived in Barcelona for 5 months and I
practically lived there. They have the best groceries. Super fresh
produce, the hugest selection of incredible cheeses, along with a large wine
section. For those of you who are Canadian it is much like the Bay or
Eatons, multi-levels with everything you could possibly want. Definitely
not cheap, but it is true that you can find all those last minute items that
perhaps you had forgotten at home. I don't really remember any along the
camino route but I'm sure there must be one in Leon and the larger centres.
In any case I would go there when I was feeling homesick and buy a big chunk
of good old cheddar cheese, funny how now when I feel pangs of longing for
Spain I go to one of the specialty markets here and buy excessively over
priced manchego... it's worth it though.

El Corte is a kind of expensive but good chain store found all over Spain
& now Lisbon.
They have everything there is to have in the (un)civilized world!
I've bought a lot of clothes there, not cheap.
They do have an outlet: Oportunidades.
The saying in Spain is that: "if u cannot find it at el Corte, it doesn't
exist!)
Their big plug is that they give u ur $ back if unsatisfied.
Not K-Mart, etc., more like...Macey's with a supermarket?...hmm...what do
u all think?

Hola All;
The department store called K-Mart/WalMart may be El Corte Ingles(sp?).
They are a cut above K/WalMart. Good for the adapter you forgot to bring.
Also has a supermarket for food.
