Foot Care

Melissa, I haven't walked the Camino, but have done a number of long walks,
in addition to walking quite a few miles per week as part of my regular
exercise.

I wear SmartWool socks with no liners. Some people swear by liners, but I
find the SmartWools "wicking" enough.

I use Vaseline on my feet before putting on my socks..don't be shy...just
goop it on there, esp. in between your toes. It keeps everything well
lubricated!

And yes, the right fit for shoes or boots is essential. Make sure there are
NO wrinkles in your socks or seams that rub in tight areas. I've been known
to turn my socks inside out, which helps.

Remember, the Camino isn't a race. If you have to stop and put more
vaseline on your feet, you'll be better off than trying to make another
kilometer or two on a weeping blister. I have to say, on none of my long
(26+ miles) walks have I ever gotten a blister doing the above. I HAVE
gotten blisters in 10 minutes walking in the wrong fitting shoes and bad
socks!

Heres' to happy feet!
Linda
