October pilgrims

Hello you all,
       Last October 4,769 pilgrims received the Compostela in Santiago; 40%
were women and 60% men.
       4,465 of the pilgrims declared the reason for their pilgrimage to be
religious and 304 expressed a cultural/educational motive.
       4,201 of the pilgrims walked, 558 bicycled and 10 rode horses.
       Foreign pilgrims, 3,034, outnumbered those from Spain, 1,735, nearly
to one. 747 came from France, 631 from Germany, 214 from our neighbor Canada,
171 from the United States, 145 from the United Kingdom, 138 from Brasil, 134
from Switzerland, 126 from Italy, 118 from the Northern Countries, 109 from
Austria and the rest from 37 other countries.
       935 of the pilgrims were over 60 years of age, 2,771 were between 30
and 60 years old, 1,063 were under 30 years old.
       987 pilgrims started out in Saint Jean Pied de Port, 530 in
Roncesvalles, 525 in Sarria, 340 in Leon, 330 in Le Puy, 250 in O Cebreiro, 228 in
Pamplona, 209 in Ponferrada and the rest, in smaller numbers, in various other
sites including Somport and Astorga.
       The overwhelming number of the pilgrims, 4,525, followed the French
Way, 94 the Northern Way, 84 the Silver Way, 58 the Portuguese Way, 5 the
English Way and 3 the Primitive Way.
       988 of the pilgrims were retired, 598 were students and the rest
stated occupations and professions fairly covering the working people
spectrum.
