Very important question

What you need is the credencial. This is also known as the pilgrim
passport. This is the document that you get stamped at each stop along the
way to prove that you have made the journey. This is also your passport to
the refugios. When you get to Santiago, you present this credencial and you
are then given the Compostela (the certificate of pilgrimage). So in short
the only document you need before starting your pilgrimage is the
credencial.
Most majr towns along the way have credencials available (usually in the
cathedral), and I suspect that Vezelay is no different (does anyone have
concrete information?).
However if you have time I would suggest that you procure one before you
travel.
For this there are a number of options:
1) Your country's Pilgrim Association (I do not know in which coutry you
live)
2)The London based Confraternity of St. James. Their direct e-mail address
is officeacsj.org.uk
3) The American Friends of the Road. The e-mail address is dgitlitzaaol.com
Any of the above will help you.
Regards
Joe

important, WHERE and WHEN) to be able to get logging (and I have heard also
that sometimes they give you food or cheaper meals) on the Camino's
Refugios. I am going to start in Vezelay (apparently) and it is a very long
way till Roncevalles (where I have understood, many ask for the certificate
of "peregrino" or the Compostela) I don't understand if the Compostela is
the same thing that the "certificate of peregrino" I have to get to be able
to stay in the refugios.

don't know about this things it would be of great help if somebody can
explain these things to me.
