Madrid to SJPP assistance

I am leaving on Oct 15 for Camino number 2 but need some help from the group.
Last time I flew to Bilbao, so getting to the start was much easier.  This
time I am going thru Madrid as I will also be visiting there for several days
before I leave on Nov 27. I will be arriving at the madrid airport on Oct 16
at 4:20 pm. Should I try to catch the train that day for Pamplona? or stay in
Madrid.  How easy is it to get the train from the airport etc. What is
faster, easiest way to get to SJPP from Madrid. I would appreciate any advice
for making this trip.
