Saint Francis of Assisi

Can anyone tell me about the time St Francis spent in Spain.  I have
read conflicting accounts of his journey there.  Was he making a
pilgrimage to Saint James or was he en route to Morocco?  He fell ill
whilst in Spain - if he was making a pilgrimage did this occur on his
return from Santiago or on his way.  I understand he was forced to
return to Italy following his illness.

Any information would be helpful to me.
