Pamploma to Burgos and other detours

We checked our maps, and having a bald rear tire on one of our bikes,
decided to travel by road from Sahagun to Mansilla de las Mulas, going off
the true Camino and bypassing El Burgo Ranero. I cannot remember any
hostals or hotels, and only one cafe in the 50+ km between Sahagun and
Mansilla.

Likewise, we were (I was ) wary of the climb thru Rabanal and the descent
thru El Acebo with that same bald tire. The maps pointed out an alternate
route from Astorga to Porta Manzanal, 20 km away. Turns out Porta Manzanal
is a mountain pass, and we had to continue another 21 km to Bembibre.
Between Astorga and Bembibre, approx 40 KM, there was one gas station and no
cafe's or hostals!

Our advice, stay on one of the traditional routes.
