In 1989, the pope (John-Paul II) visited Santiago
Round 1990, I do not know the exact date, the Unesco declared the city
of Santiago de Compostela as a heritage (worldpatrimonium)(I am sorry
but I do not know the right terms) because of giving accomodation to
pilgrims for centuries and
in 1992 the European Council gave a distinction to The Camino with the
title of "first European Cultural Way "
Because of these events there was a lot of publicity on the tv and in
the papers
