on your own

I found completing the pilgrimage on my own to be a very rewarding
experience.  By 'on my own' I mean that I started out alone.  I met many
friends along the way and for awhile I even traveled with a group.  I'm not
sure if you are refering to walking alone the whole time or simply going
without anyone you already know.  I would highly reccomend going on you own
though, and trust me, you are never really alone.
