Following the Milky Way

Just catching up on email and this thread--thanks for the nice words! A bit
of clarification: Following the Milky Way was first published in 1989 and
describes my pilgrimage from St. Jean to Santiago in 1982, before the Camino
became popular (and, as P. Coelho noted in Rosina's translation, there
weren't any refugios then). To my knowledge, it's the first contemporary
account by an American walking the Camino. I was doing my PhD in anthropology
on the modern Camino, and walking the Camino was part of that fieldwork. I
wanted people to know about the Camino, so I wrote a travel narrative based
on my experiences (and some of my ponderings)--it is intentionally not a
scholarly book. It's been long out of print, so my husband and I (Pilgrims'
Process, Inc.) decided to issue a 2nd edition, complete with a lengthy new
introduction describing changes in the Camino in the last 20 years and more
about the [pre-Christian sites and esoteric Caminos that co-exist with the
Christian one.
