boots/shoes

now i have a question for you all-
has anyone hiked in lowtop shoes and do you feel that the extra
support of a mid-high top boot is necessary? i have a pair of lowa
hiking shoes that i was just planning on adding comfort/support with
a pair of insoles. but i just came across a pair of mid-top ems boots
that are on sale and actually quite comfortable to start off with
(will still need some breaking in time, but not much) and am having
trouble with the decision, do i buy a whole new pair of shoes, or go
with what i have?
any suggestions/comments are appreciated! thanks!
