Vipers along the Way?

In Australia, the land of the greatest number of venomous reptiles, we are
told to wear boots and trousers, never place a foot where the ground cannot
be seen, and to walk (relatively) noisily. Snakes do not have ears and
receive information from vibrations. If surprised by a stealthy approach
they may attack to defend themselves. A noisy approach will encourage them
to move away.
