There is a very special story about that gas pump. During the war this was the only gas available in the region and it kept the monastery operating. Samos is also infamous for having the best library in Spain but during the revolution it was burned.

Not just gloomy, but depressing too. Right outside the refugio entrance there is a gas pump like a mini gas station. I went on to Sarria rather than stay at Samos. Howard Mendes, NYC
