Carrying 15 kilos along the Camino in any kind of backpack is asking
for trouble. Limit yourself to 10% of bodyweight as a *maximum*.
Staying below 6 kilos or so is better still. Trying to carry too much
is far and away the commonest mistake made by the inexperienced.

With certain obvious exceptions (eg a minimal first-aid kit), don't
carry *anything* "just in case". Take only what you really must have
with you

Having said that - yes, you certainly should use a backpack with a
proper hip belt.
