Pamplona bus to Ronscavalles??

Hello Joseph et al - sorry its taken me so long to
reply to this one!

I got off the bus from Pamplona in Roncesvalles in the
late afternoon. It gets you there in time for the
evening pilgrims mass & blessing. Roncesvalles is not
really a town - it is a monastery and 2
restaurant/hostals. So I stood there kinda dumbly in
the middle of the road, wondering where the taxis I
had heard about were - everyone else on the bus went
into the monastery. Just as I was contemplating
whether I would just have to start my pilgrimage
there, a taxi appeared. So I expect they just show up
to meet the bus. I was alone, but it was late in the
season. I expect in the spring, there are more taxis
and opportunities to share the ride and the expense.
If you don't see one when you arrive, inquire in one
of the hostal bars - I'm sure they'll be able to call
one.

There is no reason to stay in Roncesvalles if you are
going to walk from SJPP. The taxi will take you
directly to the lovely SJPP refuge. It is open pretty
late, so you could also ask to be dropped off in town
if you had some shopping to do. The first day is long
and hard, so you want an early, refreshed start - best
to get there the night before. The hospitalero will
give you information on the next day's route choices
and sell you a credential as well.

Hope this helps!
Adrienne
