Hello Donald

I stopped at Foncebadon on the 12th of September. The csj guide said that
'the church has been retored, and a refuge was inagurated Nov. 2000). It
wasn't and the people at the restaurant said that it HAD been open, but was
closed now.

There was a restaurant/bar Gaia, which was nicely done up as a medieval
restaurant, and as I mentioned, a young Australian was working there..she
said she was an architect and there to study building in stone. It was a
rather nice place. She asked if I had heard about the events in the
U.S.--(of the 11th) I hadn't so she brought a stack of papers with the
pictures, etc.... Then, if I wasn't shocked enough, she began to discourse
on how " when things happen in the U.S. it always has to be on the front
page.... these things happen all the time in the world, but just because
something happens in the u.s. every paper puts it on the front page... she
went on from that to the U.S.'s failure to provide medicine for starving
children." nice stuff. There was also a German group there and one of
the guys reached in his bag and handed me his cellphone, saying.. "you'd
probably like to call home".
I was touched...

Well, back to the road. I did not stop at Manjarin because the guidebook
was not enthusastic and said that Tomas had had trouble with the gov. etc.
I was alone, and it appeared quite lifeless as I walked by (quickly).
Anyway, that was one of those days when I was quite sure that my Angel was
giving me considerable assistance and I just sped on to El Acebo... even
passed the German kids who were resting along the way! :-) ..

I arrived at ElAcebo just after 6:00 p.m. and was glad I went on-- I liked
it there... and the little village was very nice. Food was good and I made
a few extra kilometers that day. But, have to admit I was a bit tired the
next day...stopped at 17 km.

cheers
delphia dirks
