Unless ankles are weak low tops will do BUT high tops keep the water and mud
out.
Nothing more uncomfortable than wearing boots that are wet inside.

My personal choice were ECCOs ( in the interst of full disclosure I have
no]financial or other interest in ECCO)
I liked the combination of very light weight, very flexible, gortex lined so
waterproof, and major cushioning in the heel and sole to minimise the shock of
the foot striking the ground.

But everyone has their favourites.
