Money matters

Hello,
We were also wondering what the best way to handle money is on el Camino...
Should we exchange a number of dollars beforehand and carry it all with us,
are their exchange machines along the way, do you use credit cards and if so
how does that work? I have read that traveller's checks are not helpful. What
are your opinions?
