Hi bill ,
 Quiet easy,
You see the flash and than you start counting: "1, 2 ,3 "etc.. when you
arrive at the number you "hear" the flash, multiply it by speed of sound
which is to my knowledge
333 meters per second.
But be not afraid. If it is to strike you it will....if not...it will not !
