GOCAMINO limitations

Good point Pieter.
The Camino was not established solely for our soul searching jaunts. It, the Camino, and those who are trully in charge, the Church, is set up by their guidelines. I have heard stories about people being upset and adement about not receiving a Pilgrim Certificate. It is not ours to question their rules when it is us who willfully take it upon ourselves to participate in Their pilgrimage. Ask yourself why you are walking, and what you want out of the pilgrimage. If it is a piece of paper certifying your passage, they will give you one. If you want a piece of paper giving you pleinary indulgance, it is best to understand the rules before you go. And as with anything, fist hand knowledge is far better than second. I remember taking a photo alongside the 100k marker, and it is neither in Sarria proper nor Portomarin, but on the road, in the wood in between the two.

Distance= how far I walked to get from A to B. If I fail to tell you I took a slight detour of 2 or 3 kilometers does that make my chart any less wrong. NO. Someone not too long ago mentioned being flexible with distances, and I must agree. Sometimes I measure distance in time, not km. Sometimes I measure distance between towns, and not actual km walked. Remain positive, even if you find yourself 20 km from the nearest arrow. I'm sure you will find a kind person and a little Santiago "coincidence" to make your "deviation" worth the "inconvenience". Knowledge. Experience. Adventure. Friendships. Miracles. What is not to be found on the Camino? The Camino, like time, changes constantly without ever varying from its course. It is us who vary without really changing.

Ask yourself, am I not walking the Camino de Santiago if I am not following the little yellow arrows? If all roads lead to Santiago (and to Rome), why fret? Who was that great sage that said I chose the road less traveled? And why?

Within my heart I pound
Your cobbled roads
And never miss a Beat,
Whether in the bush,
Or on a beaten trail,
I know my soul's surname.
It is not a whisper,
Or a yell, no song,
Nor final prayer.
It is a destiny
beyond myself,
And within me it shall
forever remain.
