Galicia, 1993. (My translation) The largest contingent of English pilgrims
of the 12th century formed part of the expedition of 164 ships which left
Dartmouth in May of 1147, transporting about 13,000, the majority English,
but some Germans and Flemish. Their plan was to circumnavigate Spain in
order to unite with Louis VII and Conrad III in the Holy Land. ... They
arrived first in Asturias, then on to the estuary of the Tambre river, where
they disembarked. and celebrated Pentecost Sunday the 8th of June in
Compostela. Later they continued on to Porto and Lisbon...
