Canfranc/Somport

Dear pilgrims,

I'm still working figuring out how we would begin in or near Somport to walk
the route through Jaca; this logistical thinking, trying to figure out what
corresponds to the train to Bayonne and then the train to St. Jean for that
route.  I checked the Spanish trains website and found that we can get to
Canfranc from Zaragoza via two slow local trains, and I downloaded a map of
that route.

The French trains website tells me we can also get from Bayonne to Canfranc.
Is there a better train approach from the French side than Bayonne?  Or is
the a good place to begin just on the French side and walk up to Somport and
then down to Canfranc?
