Dear Friends,

Arnold Neumaier has just attracted our attention to a new exciting
application of intervals: by Thomas C. Hales from the University of
Michigan, who used intervals in his reasearch of
the Kepler Conjecture (on the densest arrangment of spheres
in space).

This is work in progress; preliminary results, preprints, and references
can be found on URL

http://www.math.lsa.umich.edu/~hales/kepler.html

The link to this page has been added to the Applications part of the
Interval Computations website

http://intcomp.home.ml.org (also available as
http://cs.utep.edu/interval-comp/main.html),

and the link
to Dr. Hales's homepage has been added to the Personalia part of the
interval website).

Vladik and Misha

P.S. Happy New year!
