Andy Grove in comp.sys.intel on Pentium

Apparently Andy Grove has had a message posted on comp.sys.intel apologizing
for the Pentium division bug, explaining why Intel thought nobody would ever
be affected, and guaranteeing the buggy chips for life in the sense that
they would be replaced if they are causing a problem - the number
800-628-8686 is not a short-term deal.
Intel system vendors are apparently hoping Intel will take the flak.
But it would be a good idea, I think, if purchase orders of Pentium systems
for numerical work
specified bug-free CPU's on pain of return of the system, for a refund from
the system vendor, rather than dealing with Intel and getting a replacement
at some indefinite time in the future. After all if the replacement
chip doesn't work in the system, that's really beyond Intel's power to
control. End users must insure that system vendors are responsible for
correct behavior of their systems, by demanding responsible behavior from
system vendors.
