Rex and I received the following. Although it is unlikely either
of us will be able to attend, perhaps someone else is interested
in participating.

I would like to invite you to participate in a session on Arithmetic
Standards at the 11th Symposium on Computer Arithmetic. The Symposium
will be held in Windsor, Ontario, Canada from June 29th to July 2nd,
1993. A full announcement of the program will be forthcoming shortly.
This session is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 1 from 4:15pm
to 5:45pm.

This session will consist entirely of invited talks and will be more
informal than the other paper sessions. The goal is to provide
attendees with an up-to-date review of the important standardization
efforts going on today. Each talk will be about 25 minutes long
including time for questions. Do not feel obligated to fill the time
period. You are not required to submit a paper although you may
provide handouts or copies of your presentation for those attending.
The format of the session will be similar to the rest of the symposium
where authors present papers. It is not intended to be a
panel/debate. However, there could be a lively question period at the
end of your talk.

Your area of expertise is the NCEG effort. Your talk might cover the
motivation and potential benefits of the standard as well as a brief
tutorial on some key features. The audience at Arith11 is not
particularly expert on the language issues surrounding computer
arithmetic. This talk would be a good opportunity for you to let us
know about the technical and political issues that you face in
bringing better arithmetic to computer users.

I appreciate your consideration of this invitation. Please contact me
with any questions you have.

Regards,
Willy McAllister
