I agree with David Gay's comments on what IEEE-754 requires on numbers
larger than the maximum finite number.  My previous note was explaining
my understanding of the ANSI C interpretation and its requirement of
Euclidean norm rounding.  It appears that there is conflict between
IEEE-754 and the ANSI C interpretation with respect to converting
mathematical values in the range (DBL_MAX,infinity) to machine
representations.
