getting a copy of ANSI/ISO cheaply

At the Kona meeting of X3J11, David Keaton had a copy of a new book called
``The Annotated ANSI C Standard.'' It contains a photographically reduced
copy of 9899-1990 on left-hand pages and commentary on right-hand pages. I
just received a review copy from the publisher and had a quick glance
through it. For those of us still working with a copy of the first ANSI
standard and have balked at paying the US$100+ to get a copy of 9899,
here's an opportunity to get one much cheaper.

The Annotated ANSI C Standard.
Herbert Schildt
Osborne McGraw-Hill
ISBN 0-07-881952-0 1993
US$39.95

The annotations, for the most part, offer pretty basic information and in
them I found a good number of misstatements and downright lies. I doubt
they were proofed by any active member of our committees. In any event,
the standard half of the book is worth the price.
