If you feel this news group should only be used for purely technical issues
then I apologize for the following announcement. But you (the readers) are
probably the most qualified persons to fill this job and it seemed like a
waste of everyone's time to use the usual "job posting" news groups.
HaL Computer in Campbell, California is looking for someone with IEEE 754
experience to help us produce the floating point software for a new SPARC
based computer system. What we need is someone who is very familar with
IEEE 754 and with the bit-diddling necessary to support a conforming
implementation of hardware and software. Knowledge of assembly language, C
and IEEE 754 is more important than experience as a numerical analyst (altho
numerical analyst experience is a plus). Some specific tasks are:
1. Support the development of the fp code in a software simulator of our chip.
2. Support the writting of test cases to test our hardware.
3. Write the kernel fp code. This involves "fix-up" code that allows our
hardware to be IEEE 754 compatible.
4. Tweak libraries to run efficiently on our hardware.
To summarize, we need a generalist to handle all our fp issues.
We would prefer a contractor for 6 to 9 months but the position might turn
into a permanent position. HaL is a startup that is developing a family of
high performance, superscalar, open systems based on the SPARC architecture
and Unix. The products are targeted at the commercial marketplace. HaL has
40.2 million dollars of initial funding from Fujitsu (a minority share).
If you are interested in this position or know someone who is, contact
Joel Boney (boneyahal.com) or call 408-379-7000 x1102.
