I like these suggestions, but I think it is cleaner to handle
wide_function_* with a keyword that is used at the natural places
in the declarations of functions, parameters and auto variables.
What would be the order of application with the cast syntax? For example, in
... (switch off)(switch on)(expr) ...
expr should be evaluated with the switch on. Imagine this as
a kind of lexical binding of a variable--naturally the innermost
binding takes precedence.
Should translation mode declarations be allowed between statements too?
I think so; that's what I had in mind when writing the proposal.
