Today is my father's birthday, and I'd like to take the occasion to publicly
thank cousin June Travis for sending us Granville's West Point dress uniform
jacket. It is very heavy wool, and I hope that cadets had/have something
else to wear in the summer. There is no possibility of me fitting it,
but perhaps my son can put it on and if so I'll post a photo.

My father did not remember West Point fondly. He was in an accelerated
three-year wartime class, was always rushing, and never got enough sleep.
The invasion of Japan was expected in spring of 1946,
and he and his classmates expected to be part of that as soon as they
graduated. Fortunately, both sides were spared that horror.

In high school he told me that he might be able to help me get in to
West Point if I wanted, but he didn't recommend it.

In later years he reflected that he probably didn't have the right
team-orientation as opposed to individual-contributor orientation for
success at the highest military levels.

David Hough
