Cousin Larry, who took David on his first fishing trip at the age of 3
or so, reminds us of a painful family memory.

Bonny and David can't shed any direct light on what happened; we can
only repeat what our father Granville told us:

After our grandfather Elisha Hough died, all the older brothers who'd
left home helped out as often as they could. Granville was the oldest
brother at home until he left for good in 1941 and only returned for
brief visits after that, and so was not aware of any understandings
or misunderstandings that might have developed after 1941. So in
the 1980's when legal proceedings were undertaken between the older and
younger brothers, he declined to take sides and further observed that the
stress of legal contention was ill-advised for persons with our genetic
history of cardiac troubles, and indeed four of our six uncles died of
heart disease. The dispute was always a painful subject for Granville
and he didn't discuss it with his children.
