Don Jaime Garcia, the person in charge of Pilgrims' data and communications at the Office of Pilgrims in Santiago, has fallen gravely ill and a replacement is being sought. Further, it appears that the computers at the Pilgrims office, which are old and limited, were infected with a virus which caused their Windows system to crash. Consequently, data on pilgrims will be slow in coming.
Further, that the Office was dispensing between 900 and 1,000 Comnpostelas daily during Holy Week has put a tremendous pressure on the office. On Easter Sunday Spanish TV showed the list of pilgrims waiting to get into the building stretching all the way onto Obradoiro Square!
Often, some pilgrims on this list have wondered how and what they could give back to the Camino in appreciation for the memories, graces, insights, friendships, etc. received during their pilgrimage. Perhaps those of us from NorthAmerica, and other English-speaking pilgrims, can unite our efforts and provide the Pilgrims Office with some decent computer equipment.
What say you all?
The effort could be organized through Kathy Gower and her Santa Barbara group.
I can certainly be counted on, and I think that I can speak for at least two other New York City pilgrims who would be eager to help..
Warm regards,
ps. Those of you who may be interested in the extraordinary happenings in Seville during Holy Week can write to me directly.
