The Galician newspapers report that the new timetable for religious observances at Santiago's Cathedral has been inaugurated and gone forth without a hitch.
Since yesterday there are four Pilgrims' Masses (at 10:00, 12:00, 18:00 and 19:30) daily and five on Sundays and Holidays when an extra Mass will be celebrated at 13:30.
The Botafumeiro was brought out for the 12:00 and 18:00 Masses and will continue to be so brought out twice a day until December 31, 2004.
Tourist visits are not allowed during religious observances, this means guided groups and sightseers; people coming in quietly and discretely can do so, but moving around during Mass is no longer allowed.
Visits up to hug the Apostle's image or down to the crypt can only take place after Mass or during those times when tourist visits are allowed.
Security cameras have been placed throughout the Cathedral. Reportedly they are quite unobtrusive.
The newspapers report that the new practices and timetable have met with immense approbation on the part of the both the local community and the pilgrims, who continue to be given the preferential places around the altar.
Regards,
Rosina
