Hello you all,
The called "pilgrims' bus" leaves Pamplona at 6:00 p.m. and arrives at Roncesvalles shortly after 7:00 p.m. This timing intends to give pilgrims enough time to register for the albergue, get their credentials, etc., before attending the Pilgrims' Blessing service at the Church which is at 8:00 p.m.
But on Sundays and Holidays the bus leaves Pamplona at 4:00 p.m. and the Blessing is at 6:00.
Just above the church there is a coffee shop (the only one there except for the "Posada" which is a hotel below the church); there are two or three taxis waiting after the Blessing available to take pilgrims either to SJPP, back to Pamplona, or to some other site.
The cost to SJPP from Roncesvalles is 60 Euros which works out to 15 Euros per passenger if four pilgrims share the taxi, which is usually the case. Because taxis to SJPP cross the Spain/France border, they pay license fees to both countries, which is why the cost is somewhat higher. Note, however, that these are the fares applicable to work days ("lavorables"); on Sundays or holidays ("festivos") the cost goes up about 20%.
Warm regards,
