kinds of spray or smear-on waterproofings. One can purchase Lowas with
GoreTex in the uppers which they say helps with waterproofing. As I noted
before, however, GoreTex seems to increase the amount of sweating one's feet
do. If your feet aren't too sweaty in the first place then the GoreTex
Lowas might be the thing for you. Last fall I was sitting at a small bar
having a coffee and noticed that all five of us had on Lowa boots... we were
from Germany, USA, Canada. Those boots get around!

they make several pair of sturdy but lightweight boots. I used a pair
last fall when walking the Camino from St. Jean Pied de Port to

particularly good for wider feet. If your feet sweat much at all
I'd suggest not getting any boots that have GoreTex liners, it seems to me
they heat up too much. <FONT lang=0

Boots

Hello everyone,

I am leaving in 24 days
to begin the pilgrimage for a second time. This time in Roncevalles. The
last time I went I wore my leather expedition boots. However, in recent
years I have been working on my ultralight backpacking skills and have my
pack down to about 13 pounds without food so I don't think the expedition
boots are necessary this time. I was wondering what you all wore when you
made your pilgrimage and if you have any recommendations on what type of
footwear one should wear. I know I want more stability that just walking
shoes or cross-trainers, but I don't think the boots I have would be ideal
for a light pack and the hot Spanish summer. Thanks in advance for your
advice. Buen Camino, Kerrie

<FONT
