<P>I walked the road through the mountains from St Jean to Roncevalles by myself in spring 2001 - not only was it totally safe, but it was also the most beautiful part of the whole pilgrimage (in my opinion). it is a long walk without any amenities, but I think it is well worth it. good luck!! </P>

<DIV></DIV>>road across the mountains if you're on your own
<DIV></DIV>>because it can be dangerous. I've half made up my mind
<DIV></DIV>>to take the road going along the public highway (the
<DIV></DIV>>val carlos route).
