You are right about it being a long way to Roncavalles. For my wife and I
it was 12 hours because we were not able to walk fast. It was dark when
we got to Roncavalles. About 3-4 hours after we started, we came to a bed
and breakfast and if I do the walk again from St Jean PDP then I would
walk to the bed and breakfast the first day and leave from there the next
day for Roncavalles. Of course a lot of people could not understand why
it took us 12 hours when they did it in 8 or less. I suppose we are just
old, I don't know why but we just don't walk fast. If you don't walk fast
then stay at the B&B one night.<br><br>

<blockquote type=cite class=cite cite>2. I will be starting from
Saint Jean Pied Du Port. It looks like the first refugio is in
Roncavalles, 27 km away. That seems like too much to take on for my
first day, especially since it involves going up the mountain. Is
is practical to camp in the mountains and do this section in 2 or 3
days?<br><br>
