I envy you, for I would like to walk the Via de la Plata but am not likely to have the opportunity anytime soon. Acording to some British friends (two women and a man in their late 60s!) who have walked it, starting earlier is probably the best idea as it can get uncomfortably hot in parts of Extremadura and Old Castille even in May. On the other hand, it can be quite chilly in April, for the route passes through a region with a severe climate.

The Confraternity of Saint James offers one of their guides in English for the route, and although it is a little dated, it is probably worth getting. You note that you cannot speak Castellano, but if you can read it, I strongly recommend the follwing website operated by the Confraternity in Sevilla and the purchase of their guidebook (the best guide to that part of the Camino I have encountered):
http://www.viaplata.org (Amigos del Camino de Santiago de Sevilla: Vía de la Plata). This is an excellent site offering a guidebook for the Vía de la Plata (Guía del Camino Mozárabe de Santiago) as well as web information on making that trek from Sevilla to Santiago.
